More on Tarot Basics
Before we get into detailed explanations of each card there are few more basics one needs to be aware about.
Tarot provides an instant and direct way to understand the rhythms or patterns at work in your life. Uncannily, the tarot also seems to 'predict' patterns or events that are about to happen. We often want a signpost to a decision or a confirmation of our doubts or belief in a relationship. The tarot guides us for all these and much more...
When giving a reading to someone do your best to put them at their ease. They maybe nervous about what you will say or be desperately hoping that the cards will tell them what they want to hear. They might also be worried about some fears. You would have to reassure them on such points. Do your best to ensure that you ...will not be disturbed by intrusions like doorbells, telephone calls, other people etc.
At the end of the reading, ask the questioner whether they have any more queries. They may want to amplify something that you touched on earlier or they might take the opportunity to reveal the real reason why they have come for the reading.
While doing a reading one should note that if there are more major arcana cards then destiny is somehow at work and the questioner may find that much of what is happening is beyond his/ her control. If there are fewer than average then the solution to the problem is within the jurisdiction of the questioner.
Every card major or minor arcana has a specific meaning. However the meaning of the card would change basis the positioning of the card, the type of spread being used and the question being asked by the querant. Based on the above information the card could correspond to a question about money, love, work, someone they... know or for personal growth. Also do remember all this changes if the card is reversed

Your Tarot Deck
Choosing a tarot deck is purely a personal decision,no deck is better or more authentic than the other. What is important to remember is that tarot cards are extremely senstive -they pick up and respond to subtle energies of anyone who touches them. When I do readings for other people I like to cleanse the cards between ...users to remove traces of each persons energy so that it does not influence the next persons reading
Vibrations in the environment can also affect the cards. To protect your cards from ambient energies store your cards in a pouch or box and wrap them in a dark silk cloth. Show your cards with respect as you would to a teacher or guide. The more your work with tarot, the more it will reveal its secrets to you.

Dignity of Cards
A very Happy and Prosperous New Year to every one. A big thankyou to all my regular followers on Facebook who have kept me busy in 2009 with all your queries.
An important aspect to discuss is the dignity of tarot cards. A card is considered dignified if the image while doing the reading is upright when viewed by the reader and ill dignified when viewed up side down. When doing the readings I do give importance to the dignity of the cards as a reversed card has the exact opposite meaning of an upright card

More About Minor Arcana Cards
The suit of cups realms of emotions and love, hence governs relationships between friends, colleagues, relatives & lovers. Cups are associated with all forms of creativity and fertility. An emphasis of Cups in a spread indicates that the questioner is very emotionally involved in the situation and may therefore lack objectivity.
Wands are connected with travel - be it mental, spiritual or physical. There is usually a lot of speculation and optimism about such journeys. An emphasis of wands in the spread indicates that the questioner is willing to take chances, and actually maybe tempted to take risks than is sensible.
Swords rule words & thoughts which can be postive or negative. They govern bright ideas & worries; truth & lies. Hence they are connected with all forms of mental and intellectual activity and all types of communication. Swords are immensely logical & rational. An emphasis of swords in the spread indicates the question...er is unduly worried about the situation and giving it more thought than it deserves.
Coins or Pentacles is identified with material aspects of or lives - wealth, possessions, finances. It can also be seen as representing issues relating to the querant's status, values and sense of self worth. This suit is easier to interpret as it deals with wholly tangible concerns.
To summarise the 4 minor arcana suits wands correspond to career; cups to emotions; swords to intellectual activity and coins correspond to material affairs. A predominance of a particular minor arcana suit means that would be a major theme for the reading.

About Major & Minor Arcana Cards
A standard Tarot deck has 78 cards divided into two sections or arcanas - meaning mysteries or secrets. There are 22 Major Arcana cards and 56 minor arcana cards. As the name suggests the two sections or arcanas are not equal; the difference between them lies in the different aspects of human existence that each card depicts. The Major Arcana represent the major issues in the life of the Querant. They depict fundamental principles and experiences that are at the core of human life. Some interpret these cards as representations of elemental forces over which the querant has no control of i.e actions of destiny or fate

Successful tarot practioners need to keep an open mind..
It is very important to keep an open mind to learn tarot as a practitioner needs to make connections between seemingly random selection of cards and elements of a person's life. We all possess this intuitive capacity ranging from simple hunches to gut feeling but often supress or dismiss it - always being logical aren't we! Tarot practioners learn how to develop and harness this intuitive capacity and use it for guidance. You too need to make a start to consciously be aware and listen to your hunches!

Is Tarot a Science?
When setting to learn tarot it is very important to realise that it is not an exact science - there is no single correct path to follow, no right or wrong ways of doing things. Essentially it is all down to personal experience and each practioner brings their own unique interpretation to it. I suggest that you read widely and experiment with various tehniques until you have establised what you are comfortable with and those which don't work for you. In experienced hands, tarot can become a powerful tool for personal and spiritual development.

I have often been asked how does Tarot Reading work and how do a bunch of cards tell you what is in store for us....
Tarot Reading has become popular in recent years cos of the air of mystery that surrounds it.Even today Tarot is regarded with an air of suspicion, such fears are born out of ignorance and anyone who learns about tarot realize that tarot cards work not by invoking occult or magic but by providing the readers intuitive responses to impressions coming from his/her unconcious mind.We all possess this intuitive capacity but tend to ignore it. Hope this sets your mind thinking......
